Men’s Soccer Falls to No. 8 Tulsa in Airtight Battle

10.16.21 | Men's Soccer

TULSA, Okla.- The Temple men's soccer team (2-7-2, 0-6-0 AAC) fell just short of a massive victory against No. 8 Tulsa (10-1-0, 5-1-0 AAC) 2-1 Saturday night. Spencer Patton scored his first goal in Cherry and White for the Owls to tie the match in the second half.

How it Happened
> Temple's defense was extremely impressive towards the beginning of the match. The Owls blocked three shot attempts by the Golden Hurricane in less than three minutes early in the first half.
> Forward Aly Camara had the first shot of the match for Temple, but it was knocked down by a Tulsa defender.
>The half ended at 0-0, with neither team able to breakthrough.
> Tulsa scored the first goal of the match off a penalty kick awarded on a controversial foul on the edge of the box.
> Temple was quick to respond. Amir Cohen found Spencer Patton unmarked on the far side of the field. Patton streaked towards the goal untouched and lofted the ball over the goalkeeper to find the back of the net to even the score at one apiece ('50).
> Senior Goodwill Agbaadem made two key saves within two minutes of each other to keep the match knotted at one.
> Mike Eijgendaal had a fantastic run in the 58th minute that nearly gave the Owls the lead. The forward got behind the Golden Hurricane backline, but the Tulsa keeper made a fantastic stop to preserve the lead.
> Neither side fired another shot on-target for the remainder of the match. Tulsa claimed the 2-1 victory.

 Game Notes
> Patton's goal is his first as an Owl.
> Cohen's assist is his first point of the season after a stellar 2020-21 campaign.
> Agbaadem saw the first action of his career. The keeper made three saves.
> Two yellow cards were issued in this match, both on Temple.

From the Coach
> "I was happy with our gameplan, I was happy with where we were able to create opportunities. I wish we could've done more, but the guys brought energy."  -- head coach Brian Rowland.
