Fencing Announces 2021-22 Schedule
10.20.21 | Women's Fencing
PHILADELPHIA - After seeing a truncated schedule in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Temple fencing team has announced its full slate for the 2021-22 season. The Owls will once again see top-ranked competition as well as four USA Fencing events.Â
The Owls host the 41st annual Temple Open to kick off its schedule, with about 500 fencers from over 30 schools coming to North Broad on Oct. 23 and 24. The two-day event will see the women compete on Saturday while the men compete on Sunday, returning to the Liacouras Center after being canceled last season.Â
Temple will then head to St. Louis, Mo. to face national competition at USA Fencing's October North American Cup on Oct. 29-31. The team will get a bit of a break before returning to collegiate play at the Penn State Open on Nov. 6, the lone event for the Owls in the month of November.
Team play opens up at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Dec. 5, with the Owls set to face Harvard, NYU, Sacred Heart, and Vassar. The team will then see back-to-back USA Fencing competitions at the December NAC (Dec. 9-12) in Columbus, Ohio, and the January NAC (Jan. 7-10) in San Jose Calif. before jumping back into dual play at the Penn State Invitational on Jan. 16. The Cherry and White will face host Penn State, Ohio State, Yale, Duke, and Haverford in their second trip to State College, Pa. of the season.
Temple returns to the City of Brotherly Love for the Philadelphia Invitational hosted by Penn on Jan. 22-23. The team will close out January play against Northwestern, Penn, Ohio State, Yale, Wayne State, and Notre Dame. The Owls will open February play in the Windy City at the Northwestern Multi-Meet (Feb. 5-6) before heading to the Tar Heel State for the Duke Invitational on Feb. 13.Â
National competition concludes in February, with the Junior Olympics set for Feb. 18-21 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Cherry and White will close out the regular season at home, hosting the Temple Invitational on Feb. 27. Penn State, Johns Hopkins, St. John's, Penn, and Steven's (men) will all face off in McGonigle Hall on Temple's senior day.Â
Post-season play happens in March, with the NIWFA Championships set for March 6 at Drew. The NCAA Regionals will take place on March 12, with the top qualifiers in each region advancing to the NCAA Championships at Notre Dame on March 24-27.
