Men’s Soccer Defeats Princeton 2-0
10.6.21 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's soccer team (2-5-2, 0-4-0 AAC) toppled the Princeton Tigers (4-5-0, 1-0-0, IVY) 2-0 Wednesday night. Chaim Roserie and Jalen Campbell both found the back of the net for their first scores of the season.
How it Happened
> Kyle Hellmann opened the match, firing a dart from point-blank range. Princeton keeper Jack Roberts made the stop to keep the score knotted at nil.
> Liam Cummings impressed in the 9th minute with an early save. The keeper made a diving stop on a bullet from Frankie DeRosa and quickly corralled the rebound to give Temple possession.
> Temple had a strong chance in the 30th minute. Captain Mickael Borger delivered a perfect ball to Mike Eijgendaal in front of the goalmouth. The forward was able to head the pass on net for a golden opportunity, but Roberts reacted well and deflected the ball over the cage.
> The Owls broke through early in the second half. Freshman Tyquan Stroud made a short pass to Roserie near midfield. Roserie had ample space in front of him to drive towards the top of the box. The forward then stopped and fired a perfect shot to beat the keeper to the top right corner and give Temple a 1-0 lead.
> Ten minutes later ('62) Cummings made a pair of strong stops to keep the lead. The first saw the keeper layout for a stop on Ivy League player of the Week Malik Pinto. The second was an impressive stop off of a corner kick header.
> Cummings had another spectacular save in him. As the Tigers made a push late to even the score, the keeper turned away what looked to be a surefire goal off a corner. Princeton headed the ball to the far post where Pinto forced the ball down, but Cummings reacted with lightning-quick reflexes to stop the ball with his feet and fall on it to prevent a rebound.
> The Owls sealed the win with a goal by Campbell in the 79th minute. Kyle Hellmann found the streaking midfielder one-on-one with the Tiger defense. Campbell shook his defender and beat the keeper with ease to go up 2-0.
> Cummings continued to deliver in the final minutes. Making two more excellent stops to earn his first career clean sheet.
Game Notes
> Roseries' score is his first at the Division I level.
> Cummings shattered his career-high with eight stops and earned his first career shutout.
>Three yellow cards were issued in this match. Two on Princeton and one on Temple.
