GREENVILLE, N.C. – Temple women's soccer (3-5-3, 1-3-0 AAC) fell to East Carolina (6-7-1, 1-2-1 AAC), 2-1 in a competitive conference matchup on Thursday night at Johnson Stadium. Despite taking the lead just 17 minutes into the match, East Carolina rebounded, scoring two unanswered goals in the remainder of play to earn the win.
How It Happened
"Were moving back into two-game weeks starting next week and I think the consistency could be good for us," Nick Bochette said. "It's an opportunity to really find our rhythm and bring the game speed that is necessary to win. Our second half performance was not where it needed to be tonight, but it was not for lack of effort. We have to continue to put the right work in as we prepare for the next few games."

How It Happened
- The Owls and the Pirates entered the match hustling, resulting in a back-and-forth possession battle in the middle third of the field for the first 15 minutes of play.
- Temple found their first true opportunity of the night in the 17th minute as the Owls sent a long ball over the Pirate back line from the midfield. Emily Kavanaugh went head-to-head with Pirate defender Kim Sanford, winning the fight for possession to find herself face to face with fast approaching East Carolina goalkeeper Maeve English. Kavanaugh acted fast, popping the ball over English for the 1-0 lead.
- East Carolina continued to apply the pressure, firing off a promising shot from outside the box. As the ball sailed towards the top of the net, Kamryn Stablein made the leap, getting a tip on the ball to send it bouncing off the crossbar and back into play.
- Just one minute later, the Pirates made a run down the left wing, sending a cross into Samantha Moxie for the 42nd minute equalizer.
- The Pirates found a string of promising opportunities starting in the 57th minute as they controlled offensive possession to earn four corners in five minutes. The Owl defense, spearheaded by Stablein held strong in their defensive zone to keep the match at a draw.
- East Carolina finally broke through, sending a cross into the box for the game winning 67th minute goal.
- The Cherry and White defense successfully defended three more corner opportunities in the remaining 23 minutes of play to limit the Pirate lead further.
