Kavanaugh and Andersson Earn AAC Postseason Honors
11.3.21 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Two members of the Temple women's soccer team have received post-season honors from the American Athletic Conference as selected by the leagues coaches. Emily Kavanaugh headlines the awards for the Owls, being named to the AAC First-Team. Kavanaugh is only the second Temple women's soccer player to ever receive this honor since joining the conference in 2013, and fourth player in Temple history, dating back to the start of the program in 1991. Moa Andersson joins Kavanaugh as an AAC All-Rookie selection, the fifth player to earn this honor since joining the AAC.
Kavanaugh had a standout season for the Owls, leading the Cherry and White's offensive efforts. The standout forward recorded seven goals and one assist for a team high of 15 points, ending the regular season tied for fourth in the AAC in points. The South Riding, Va., native played in every game of the 2021 season, clocking 1403 minutes and contributing points across six different matches. One of Kavanaugh's most notable performances came in the come-from-behind victory over Cincinnati on Sept. 23. The forward struck twice in the match, bringing the game back to a draw to ultimately propel the Owls to the 3-2 victory. After this performance, Kavanaugh was awarded AAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts, the second Temple women's soccer player to ever receive this recognition at the time.
Andersson, a Valbo, Sweden, native had a standout first season in Cherry and White. The rookie made an immediate impact, playing in 15 games with 14 starts, missing the final game of the season due to illness. Andersson worked tirelessly in the midfield, providing consistency for the Owls over the course of the season, clocking 1232 minutes. Her efforts did not go unnoticed, as she joined eleven other first-year players across the conference on the AAC All-Rookie team.
Head coach Nick Bochette has now coached three players to post-season honors since his start in 2020, placing two players on the All-Rookie team in Andersson and Lexy Endres (2020-21) along with his first, first-team honor in Kavanaugh.
