Nilson adds Johnson and Scheuerman to 2022 Signing Class

12.9.21 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA - Emily Johnson and Amanda Scheuerman are the latest additions to Women’s Head Gymnastics Coach Josh Nilson’s 2022 signing class.

Earlier during the signing period Nilson commented on his 2022 signing class' high ceiling and character.

We are looking forward to the strength and talent that this signing class will bring to Temple. We believe they will help us continue building on the last few years of great success that we have had here. Not only is their gymnastics exceptional, they are people of high character and fit in great with our culture!

Emily Johnson 2022 Signing Day
Emily Johnson | Highlands Ranch, Colo. | Incline Gymnastics

Emily Johnson comes to North Broad as a level 10 gymnast from Highlands Ranch, Colo. and trains at Incline Gymnastics. Johnson has been at level 10 since 2018 and has earned four top five performances in the all-around in 11 meets. In 2021 at the Denver Winterfest, Emily scored the top result on the vault, while taking third on the beam, and the all-around. She followed it up her third-place finish with a fourth-place finish at the Colorado State Championships. Johnson finished second on the bars, third on the beam, and fourth in the all-around. In her 2018, her first season of an L10, Emily earned top honors on the beam at the Region 3 Championships as she recorded a 9.650. In the 2021, Johnson took fifth on the bars with a 9.625.

Emily is extremely competitive! She fits the mentality of our team very well. The first time I spoke to Emily in person I knew I wanted to coach her. Emily has untapped all-around potential and I look forward to pushing her to achieve her full potential in college.

Amanda Scheuerman 2022 Signing Day
Amanda Scheuerman | Old Bridge, N.J. | Action Gymnastics

Amanda Scheuerman is from Old Bridge, N.J. and trains with Action Gymnastics. She too is a level 10 gymnast and has competed in 12 L10 meets throughout her scholastic career. In those 12 meets, Scheuerman has earned nine top 10 finishes. On Feb. 7, 2020, Amanda would earn a first-place finish on the bars, second-place results on the beam and the floor, and third place on the vault.  At the New Jersey State Championship on March 3, 2021, Scheuerman vaulted her way to her second-ever event win as an L10. Amanda has a long list of awards to go along with her impressive results, including NJSIAA National Team Member, NJSIAA Beam State Champion, NJSIAA Sectional Bars Champion, NJSIAA GMC Beam Champion, NJSIAA Sectional All-Around Champion, Level 10 JO National Qualifier, Level 10 Regional Qualifier, and Level 10 Vault State Champion.

Amanda is the type of person who lights up the room when she enters it. She has great energy and is always positive. She is an incredible beam competitor. She won NJ State on beam and she is going to be an asset to the team on that event, and potentially in the all-around.
