Women’s Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Saturday Against ECU

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's basketball team welcomes ECU to McGonigle Hall for a noon tip-time on Saturday, Feb. 13. The American Athletic Conference matchup will be aired on ESPN+.
THE OWLS
> Temple enters Saturday's game with a record of 7-8 (7-5 AAC). The Owls are currently ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference.
> Senior Mia Davis leads the Owls with 18.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
> On Feb. 3, Davis was named a Top 10 Finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award on Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. This marks the second-straight season Davis has been named a top 10 contender for the prestigious award.
> Rookie Jasha Clinton, this week's American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, is Temple's second-leading scorer with 13.1 points per game. The guard adds 3.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.8 steals per game for the Owls. Clinton leads Temple in three-pointers (23) and steals (27).
> Junior Alexa Williamson is the third Owl averaging double-digit points this season with 11.5 per game. The Houston, Pa. native boasts a team-best field goal percentage of 48% and adds 6.7 rebounds per game for Temple.
> Sophomore Asonah Alexander leads Temple with 5.5 assists per outing. The 5-10 guard is the third-leading rebounder for the Owls, pulling down 6.5 boards per night.
OWLS' LAST TIME OUT: Houston 89, Temple 52
> The Owls suffered their second loss to Houston this season, 89-52, on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at McGonigle Hall.
> Houston knocked down 11 three-pointers to fuel their way past the Owls. The Cougars shot 50.8% (31-61) from the field and 44% (11-25) from beyond the arc.
> Temple committed 26 turnovers to log their second-most turnovers in a game this season. Houston was able to capitalize on the Owls' mistakes and score 40 points off turnovers.
> The Cougars held a slight advantage on the boards, pulling down 37 rebounds to Temple's 32.
> Houston's bench added 24 points to the Cougars' second-highest scoring total of the season.
> Williamson paced the Owls with 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

> Following Monk is Dominique Claytor with 2.4 steals per contest, ranking second in the conference. Claytor adds 4.1 points and 4.4 rebounds for ECU.
> Leading the Pirates on the boards is Tiara Chambers with 5.2 rebounds per outing.
> Taniyah Thompson is the second Pirate scoring in double figures with 11.2 points each game.
PIRATES' LAST TIME OUT: ECU 67, Memphis 53
> ECU won their first game of 2021 on Feb. 6 in Memphis as they topped the Tigers 67-53.
> After trailing the majority of the game, the Pirates used a big 23-6 fourth quarter to come from behind and win their first game since Dec. 22.
> ECU forced Memphis into 28 turnovers, allowing the Pirates to score 24 points off of the Tigers' mistakes.
