HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – It has been nearly a year since Temple Golf has been in competition, but that ends on Monday, Feb. 22 as the Owls open the 2021 season at the Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate at Palmetto Hall. The 16-team event, hosted by Francis Marion, will be held at the Palmetto Hall Golf & Country Club (Arthur Hills Course), which is a 6,918-yard, par-72 course. It is a 54-hole event with two rounds on Monday followed by a final round on Tuesday.
Previewing the Owls
> Temple returns its top three golfers from its shortened 2019-20 season led by senior captain Dawson Anders, who had a season-best 73.64 stroke average while playing all 22 rounds.
> Junior Conor McGrath was close behind with a 73.86 average while sophomore Graham Chase had an impressive rookie season, playing every round and compiling a 74.73 stroke average.
> Newcomers Peter Bradbeer, a senior transfer from Bucknell, and sophomore Andrew Curran, a transfer from Holy Cross, will round out the Owls five-man lineup.
The Field
> Besides Temple, the field for the inaugural Pinnacle Bank Intercollegiate includes: Augusta, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Dayton, Francis Marion, Furman, Gardner Webb, High Point, Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, Radford, Seton Hall, USC Aiken, Winthrop and Wofford.
Quotable
"I am really excited for the kids to get out and compete. There certainly will be a lot of rust to shake off, but so happy for them as they haven't been able to compete for a year. It will help them athletically as well as mentally and spiritually." - Temple coach Brian Quinn
