Temple Dominates Delaware to Open 2021 Lacrosse Season

NEWARK, Del.- The Temple lacrosse team rode two scoring outbursts to an impressive 17-10 win over the Delaware Blue Hens Saturday afternoon. With the season-opening victory, the Owls sit at 1-0 on the season while the Hens drop to 0-1.
Recapping the Game
> The teams traded goals to open the game, knotting the score up at 1-1 before Temple scored two in a row to take a 3-1 lead.
> The Blue Hens would score the next two to tie the game at three before the Owls went on a six-goal run to take a 9-3 lead.
> Temple scored once more, sandwiched between a pair of Delaware goals, to give the Owls a 10-5 halftime lead.
> The Owls roared out of the gate with four-straight goals coming out of the half to extend the lead to nine, 14-5.
> After a Gabrielle Kirsch goal pushed the lead to double digits (15-10), the Hens added their first tally of the second half after over 17 minutes without scoring.
> After Temple scored once more, Delaware made a late-game push. The Hens notched three before Temple countered with a goal of their own to stamp out any hope of a comeback.
> Delaware added one final score with 15 seconds left and Temple closed the game with a 17-10 victory,
Statistically Speaking
> Sophomore Mackenzie Roth scored a game-high four goals, including the first two goals for Temple. Her four goals are the first of her collegiate career.
> Bridget Whitaker, Belle Mastropietro, Kara Nakrasius also added hat tricks. Kirsch scored two, with Julie Schickling and Camryn Zavacky notching one each. For Zavacky, it was her first goal as an Owl.
> Meghan Hoffman and Kirsch paced Temple with three assists each. Temple had 11 assists to Delaware's one.
> Whitaker and Mastropietro combined to outshoot the entire Blue Hen roster 17-15.
