Gymnastics Scores a 194.825 at NC State Tri-Meet

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Temple gymnastics team scored a 194.825 in a tri-meet at NC State on Saturday night. The Owls took third against top-30 and EAGL competition, as #25 NC State won the meet with a 196.200, followed by #27 UNC with a 195.000.
How it Happened
> Temple hit all four events, recording scores of 48.550 on bars, beam, and vault, and tallying a 49.175 on floor.
> Temple's floor score was the highest score for any team on any event at the meet.
> Three Owls recorded podium finishes, led by senior Faith Leary and junior Ariana Castrence, who tied for the floor title.
> Freshman Cyrena Whalen took third on bars, her first podium finish of her career.
> Castrence and junior Julianna Roland competed in the All-Around for the Owls, with Castrence taking third and Roland, fourth.

> Temple put together a solid bars rotation going 48.550 to open the meet.
> Whalen scored a career high with a fantastic routine that went 9.850, tying her for third overall at the meet.
> Castrence (9.725) and junior Caitlin Gray (9.725) also hit high scores for Temple.
Beam
> Temple matched their bars score with a 48.550 in the second rotation on beam.
> Freshman Renee Schugman had the high score for the Owls on the event, going 9.775.
> Other top scores included a lead-off 9.725 from Jordyn Oster and a 9.725 from Castrence.
Floor
> It was another outstanding floor rotation for the Owls as the team combined for a 49.175.
> Castrence and Leary each tallied high scores of 9.875, to tie for first place on the event.
> Roland finished with a 9.850, while senior Tori Edwards hit a 9.800 in the lead-off spot.
> Rounding out the rotation was a 9.775 from freshman Brooke Donabedian.
Vault
> Temple finished the day with another 48.550, this time on vault.
> Junior Caitlin Gray and Schugman each led the team with 9.775's to lead the team.
> Castrence added a 9.750 while Roland went 9.725 to close out the highlights.
