Gymnastics Earns 13 All-EAGL Honors

PHILADELPHIA - In their first season competing in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), the Temple Owls have already made an impact, earning 13 All-EAGL honors. Temple finished fourth in the regular season rankings and will head into the EAGL Championship with momentum, having achieved their two highest scores of the season in the final weekend of competition.

"Having this much representation from the team in our first year in the EAGL is a testament to how hard these athletes have worked," said head coach Josh Nilson. "They represent the University, the department, and the team very well. We are proud of them!"

Temple split its 13 All-EAGL honors among seven gymnasts. Junior Ariana Castrence led the way with four All-EAGL honors, three first team, while classmate Julianna Roland had three honors, two on the first team. Freshman Brooke Donabedian had an impactful rookie season, earning a pair of All-EAGL honors. Other All-EAGL honors went to seniors Faith Leary and Tori Edwards and freshmen Cyrena Whalen and Renee Schugman.

Temple's entire floor lineup earned All-EAGL distinction, as Leary, Castrence, and Roland earned first-team nods, while Donabedian, Edwards, and Schugman made the second team. The Owls had two honors each on vault in Castrence and Roland, bars in Castrence and Whalen, and beam in Roland and Donabedian. Castrence also earned All-EAGL in the All-Around.

The Cherry and White are back in action on Saturday competing at the 2021 EAGL Championships at the University of Pittsburgh. The Owls will compete in the evening session with Towson, Pitt, LIU, and will rotate starting on bars.
