Women’s Basketball Falls in AAC Quarterfinals to #4 Tulane

FORT WORTH, Texas — Freshman Jasha Clinton led all players in scoring, assists and steals but it wasn't enough as the fifth-seeded Temple women's basketball team fell 83-73 to #4 Tulane in the American Athletic Conference Quarterfinals Thursday afternoon. Tulane advances to the semifinals with an improved record of 17-7 (12-6 AAC) while the Owls head home with a mark of 11-11 (11-7 AAC). 

How It Happened
> Temple shot 41.1% (30-73) from the floor, 33.3% (7-21) from three and 54.5% (6-11) from the foul line. 
> The Green Wave had a better day shooting with their field goal percentage of 50.0 (32-64). Tulane finished the game shooting 82.4% (14-17) from the foul line. 
> The Owls held a 38-36 edge on the boards, including a season-best 21 offensive rebounds. 
> However, Temple was unable to score easy buckets as they went 13-for-30 on layup attempts. 

Statistically Speaking
> Clinton had game-highs of 22 points, eight assists and five steals. The rookie tied her career-best of five three-pointers in the loss. 
> Senior Mia Davis was the second-leading scorer with her 20-point effort. The forward added eight rebounds in her 39 minutes of action. 
> Junior Alexa Williamson registered her second double double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Houston, Pa. native went 8-for-12 from the floor to lead the Owls in field goal percentage (66.7%). 

First Quarter: Tulane 21, Temple 14
> Temple held a 5-2 lead to open the game as Tulane was unable to knock down a field goal until the seven minute mark. 
> Tulane scored seven points off Temple's 10 first-quarter turnovers. 
> Williamson led the way for the Owls with nine points in the first 10 minutes on 4-of-5 shooting. 
> Tulane was able to collect four offensive boards that led to four second-chance points. 

Second Quarter: Tulane 47, Temple 36
> Davis started to find her rhythm in the second frame as she knocked down three shots, including one from long range, in the first three minutes of the quarter. 
> The Owls did a better job handling the ball in the second quarter and committed only four turnovers. 
> However, Temple struggled on the boards as they recorded just four rebounds while Tulane collected nine. 
> Clinton also caught fire in the second quarter with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting, two of which came from beyond the arc. 

Third Quarter: Tulane 73, Temple 54
> Temple shot 43.8% from the field, but Tulane shot better with their 55.6% as the Green Wave outscored the Owls 26-18. 
> Tulane scored nine second-chance points and another nine off Temple's six turnovers.  
> The Green Wave went on a 14-0 run over a minute-and-a-half to take a 20-point lead towards the end of the third quarter. 

Fourth Quarter: Tulane 83, Temple 73
> The Owls collected a whopping 15 offensive boards in the fourth quarter but were only able to collect nine points off those second-chance opportunities. 
> Temple outscored the Green Wave 19-10 in the final 10 minutes but it was not enough to overcome their deficit. 
> The Owls went 8-of-28 from the floor to shoot just 28.6% to close out the game. 

Up Next
> The Owls will wait to see if they will earn a bid into the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). The 32-team field will be announced late Monday evening, Mar. 15.
