Golf Set to Compete at 2021 AAC Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Temple Golf will open play at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championship Friday. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the Southern Hills Plantation Club. Eight teams from The American will play in pairs in a five-count-four scoring format.
Tee times will begin between 8-8:34 a.m. off the first tee with No. 8 seed Owls pairing off against #7 seed East Carolina. Players from No. 5 seed Wichita State and No. 6 seed Memphis will head out from 8:43-9:17 a.m., followed immediately by No. 3 seed UCF and No. 4 seed Cincinnati at 9:25-9:59 a.m. No. 1 seed SMU and No. 2 seed USF are set to take the course from 10:08-10:42 a.m. to round out the entries on day one. The field will be re-paired for both day two and day three based on subsequent scoring.
SMU enters the American Men's Golf Championship slotted 20th in the latest GolfStat team rankings on April 20 to pace the conference. USF (35) and UCF (64) are also ranked in the team top 100 entering the American Men's Golf Championship.
SMU's Noah Goodwin is the current top-ranked individual in The American, entering the American Men's Championship slotted 11th in the latest GolfStat rankings. Teammate Mac Meissner was just behind Goodwin at 13th, and USF's Albin Bergstrom checked in 58th. UCF's Johnny Travale was 91st according to GolfStat to round out American players among the top 100.
Temple, which won the Temple Spring Invite and placed second in the Wildcat Spring Invitational over the last 10 days, is led by Conor McGrath. The Owl junior, who leads the team with a 73.3 stroke average, tied for medalist honors at the Temple Spring Invite and tied for second at the Wildcat Spring Invitational.
Senior captain Dawson Anders, who leads the Owls with three top five finishes on the season, ranks second with a 74.13 average. Sophomore Graham Chase (75.53), junior Buddy Hansen (76.75) and sophomore Andrew Curran (80.11) round out head coach Brian Quinn's Temple squad.
