Edwards, Leary to Take Fifth Year for Gymnastics

4.5.21 | Women's Gymnastics

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple gymnastics team will have a pair of familiar faces back on the team for the 2022 season, as seniors Tori Edwards and Faith Leary will both return for a fifth year.

"We couldn't be more thrilled that Tori and Faith have decided to join us for their fifth year," said Head Coach Josh Nilson. "They are both leaders in the classroom and on the floor of competition and will help continue to elevate the program."

A mainstay in Temple's lineups, Edwards has competed on every event for the Owls, scoring at least a 9.825 or better on all four. Tori's career high All-Around score of 39.175, set in 2018, was the second-best score in program history at the time. Her other career highs stand at 9.825 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.800 on beam, and 9.900 on floor. Tori was in the Temple lineups that broke the program's vault and floor records and hit the second-highest bars score in school history. She is a seven-time All-Conference award winner and a 2021 AAI Award nominee.

Leary has already made a huge impact in just two seasons at Temple, competing on vault, beam, and floor. This season, she hit her career high of 9.900 on floor, making her one of only nine Temple gymnasts in program history to ever score a 9.9 or better on the event. She was Owls' lineup that tied broke the all-time floor record at the 2021 EAGL Championships and she won the individual EAGL floor title. Leary advanced to the NCAA Regionals on floor this season, scoring a 9.900 to rank third overall, cementing her status as the Owls' best scoring and best finishing gymnast in history at an NCAA Championship.

Both Edwards and Leary helped Temple gymnastics to its best ever season in 2021 where the Owls won the EAGL Championship in their first season in the conference. Temple finished the season with a #30 national ranking to earn an NCAA team bid for the first time since 1992.
