Women's Rowing Places Second at Kelly Cup, Racks up Four Additional Top 3 Wins

PHILADELPHIA - It was a bright and early start on the Schuylkill this morning as Temple women's rowing competed in the Kelly Cup, hosted by the Saint Joseph's Hawks. The team placed second in the Kelly Cup finals, while finishing top 3 in every event they participated in.
Racing Action
> The Owls raced four boats at the Kelly Cup, the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight boat and Varsity Four.
> The Varsity Eight boat kicked off the morning at 8:00 a.m. heat where they finished second to move into the finals.
> The Third Varsity Eight took off at 8:30 a.m. and finished first, recording a time of 7:14, but the team was disqualified after cutting into another lane too far.
> Next up was the Varsity Four at 9:00 a.m. which took home a third place finish, clocking in at 7:53.3.
> The Second Varsity Eight went off at 9:15 a.m. The team landed the Owls' second second-place finish of the day with a time of 6:56.26.
> The final race for the coveted Kelly Cup started at 9:45 a.m. and was a showdown between Temple, Penn, Drexel and Villanova. While Penn won, the Owls took second place, edging Drexel by a slim margin of .68 seconds.
