Track and Field Earns Third Place for Highest Finish at AAC Outdoor Championship

TAMPA, Fla. – The Temple track and field team collected a program-record 81 points to earn their highest-ever finish with third overall at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship.

Meet Highlights
> Tannekee Strachan began the day for the Owls in the triple jump. The sophomore jumped 12.29m to finish 11th in the event.
> In the high jump, Aisha Brown finished just shy of All-Conference honors with her fourth-place mark of 1.73m. Freshman Nicole Castor recorded a personal-best of 1.70m to add four points to Temple's overall score.
> The 4x100m squad of Chelby Elam, Chidumga Nkulume, Jewel Ofotan and Mallorie Smith finished fifth at 46.35 for Temple's best time of the season.
> Grace Moore finished second in the 1500m with her time of 4:20.68, marking Temple's best-ever time in the event at the AAC Outdoor Championship.
> Marissa White added two points for the Cherry and White with her personal-best 54.40 in the 400m.
> The trio of Lea Kerbiriou, Alanna Lally and Helene Gottlieb combined for 16 points in the 800m. Rookie Kerbiriou led the Owls with her second-place time of 2:09.02 followed by Lally in third (2:09.08) and Gottlieb in seventh (2:12.34).
> Michelle Joyce was crowned the 2021 AAC 5000m Champion with her first-place time of 16:38.41. Moore earned bronze after crossing the finish line at 16:43.98, while Emma Gee rounded out the scoring with her fourth-place mark of 16:48.20. The Cherry and White collected a whopping 21 points following the efforts of Joyce, Moore and Gee.
> Heading into the final event of the night, Temple was tied for third with the Shockers of Wichita State. Thanks to the quartet of Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye, Nkulume, Kerbiriou and White, the Owls collected two points from the 4x400m time of 3:43.56 to secure the program's highest-ever finish.
