Track & Field Sends Four to NCAA East Preliminary Round

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple track and field team will send a program-record four athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. beginning Thursday, May 27 at the University of North Florida. 
 
About the NCAA East Prelim
> The 2021 NCAA East Preliminary Round is hosted by the University of North Florida and will take place at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium beginning with the men's events on Wednesday, May 26.
> The women's events will begin on Thursday the 27th. Alanna Lally will be the first in the Cherry and White to compete as she races in the first round of the 800m Thursday evening at 7:50 p.m. The top three runners from each of the six heats plus the next best six times will advance to the 800m quarterfinals on Saturday, May 29 at 7:35 p.m. Lally is the current Temple record holder in the 800m with a time of 2:04.62.
> Next up for the Owls will be Aisha Brown on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the high jump. The competitors with the 12-best marks will move on to the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Ore. taking place June 9-12. Brown's qualifying jump of 1.75m that earned her first place at the Raleigh Relays is tied with 10 other athletes competing the East preliminary. 
> Emma Gee will then compete in the 3000m steeplechase semifinals Saturday evening at 6:10 p.m. The top five runners from each heat plus the next best two times will move on to the finals in Eugene. Gee's qualifying time of 10:11.48 is Temple's current program record in the event. 
> Closing out the busy day for Temple will be Grace Moore in the 5000m semifinals at 8:30 p.m. Her program-record time of 15:47.98 ranks 12th in the East region. 

Last Time Out
> The Owls recorded their highest-ever conference finish with their third-place mark at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Tampa, Fla. 
> Lally earned bronze and six points for Temple in the 800m with her mark of 2:09.08. 
> Brown finished just shy of all-conference honors as her mark of 1.73m landed her in fourth place. 
> In the 3000m steeplechase, Gee earned silver with her time of 10:14.93. 
> Gee added five points for the Owls in the 5000m with her fourth-place mark of 16:48.20.
> Moore finished second in the 1500m with her time of 4:20.68, marking Temple's best-ever time in the event at the AAC Outdoor Championship. 
> In the 5000m, Moore earned bronze after crossing the finish line at 16:43.98.
