2021 TUG Awards: Rookie of the Year

The 2021 Rookie of the Year is Renee Schugman!
A native of Smithtown, N.Y., Schugman had a spectacular freshman year for the Owls. A consistent performer on vault, beam, and floor, she hit season bests of 9.850 or better on each event. Schugman was also an integral part of Temple's nationally ranked floor lineup, where she earned All-EAGL honors on the event. She contributed 35 total routines for the Owls in 2021, the third most on the team, while adding a pair of event titles.
Renee competed three events for us all year. She was composed and aggressive. It is hard to explain to an incoming freshman the different feeling of competing for a team and not yourself, but Renee did just that. She competed like a veteran for us and we couldn’t be more proud of her for that.Josh Nilson, Head Coach
