Perez Named to Rimington Trophy Watchlist

7.23.21 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – The Rimington Trophy Committee announced today that Temple's C.J. Perez has been named to the 2021 Rimington Trophy Watch List. The Rimington Trophy is handed out annually to the nation's most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. This marks the second consecutive year that Perez has been named to the list.

In his first season with the Owls, Perez led an offensive line that only allowed 33 pressures through the Owls' seven games, according to Pro Football Focus. At the time, this mark was good for the third lowest pressures in the FBS. Among centers with at least 250 snaps, Perez graded out as the 16th best pass blocking center in the nation (76.7) according to PFF.

Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman. The Rimington Trophy is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 25 awards now boast over 800 recipients, dating to 1935. Visit ncfaa.org to learn more about the association.

Perez joins 39 other players who were named to the watch list, two of those coming from the American Athletic Conference: Kody Russey (Houston), and Sincere Haynesworth (Tulane).
