Women's Soccer Falls to Maryland 3-0 in Season Opener
8.19.21 | Women's Soccer
College Park, Md. – Despite a strong second half offensive effort for the Owls, the Temple women's soccer team fell to Maryland 3-0 in the season opener Thursday night at Ludwig Field.
How it Happened:
From the Coach:
"Any time you win or lose you have to learn from it," Nick Bochette said. "When you play quality teams, there's going to be a lot of ups and downs, but that also means there is going to be a lot to take away from it. That is exactly what we want early on in the season. I was really happy with what we did today, and we can use this moving forward to our advantage."

The Owls will make the trip to Rutgers this Sunday, Aug. 22. The non-conference matchup is set for 7 p.m. and can be streamed on BTN+.
How it Happened:
- After a competitive back-and-forth battle in the first 30 minutes of regulation, Terps' midfielder Lauren Sefcik was able to sneak through the Owl defense to find the back of the net for the go-ahead goal.
- Maryland kept the momentum going by extending their lead just four minutes later on an opportunity inside the box. Alyssa Poarch received the ball from Kori Locksley for the one timer to put the Terps up 2-0.
- While the Terps kept control of the ball, senior goalkeeper Kamryn Stablein came up big for the Owls, recording two diving saves to hold Maryland scoreless for the remainder of the first half.
- Senior forward Hailey Gutowski looked to push the tempo for the Owls offensively, making a run down the left wing that resulted in a corner. Marissa DiGenova sent the ball in, where it then found the foot of Emily Kavanaugh, who sent the ball just high of the cage.
- The game remained scoreless until the 82nd minute, as Emily McNesby fired a rocket from 35 yards out to extend the lead.
