Football Suffers Second Loss of the Season, 28-3

9.18.21 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Owls (1-2, 0-0) suffered their second loss of the season, falling to Boston College (3-0, 0-0) by a score of 28-3. A slow start to the game found the Owls down 14-0 after the first quarter. From there, Temple was unable to mount enough offense to cut into the Eagles' lead.

How It Happened
First Quarter
The game began with a big return by Boston College's Travis Levy to set up the Eagles at the Temple 29-yard line. The first drive was capped off by a Dennis Grosel touchdown pass to Jaden Williams to put the Eagles up 7-0. After a few stalled drives, Temple's Keyshawn Paul intercepted a deep pass to halt the Boston College offense. A big sack by Manny Walker later on was not enough to stop Boston College, however, as the Eagles tacked on another touchdown to extend their lead.

Second Quarter
The second quarter was full of back-and-forth punts until Levy rushed for the Eagles' third touchdown of the game with just under a minute remaining.

Third Quarter
A few empty possessions for both sides opened the quarter, but Temple mounted the first long drive of the quarter spanning six minutes. However, a failed fourth-down attempt just outside the red zone halted the drive. On the ensuing possession, the defense stood tall to give the Owls the ball. Two 15-plus yard receptions from Jadan Blue and Amad Anderson Jr. moved the Owls into the red zone.

Fourth Quarter
After a few negative plays in the red zone, the Owls were forced to settle for a 32-yard field goal from Rory Bell for their only points of the contest. With just over four minutes to go in the game, a Boston College two-yard rushing touchdown put the game out of reach.

Statistically Speaking
  • Blue: Three catches, 40 receiving yards
  • Randle Jones: Six catches, 32 receiving yards
Notes
  • The 29-yard reception by tight end Darius Pittman is the longest of his career.

Up Next
The Owls will attempt to protect their home field once again when they host Wagner at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm and will air on ESPN+.
