9.19.21 | Men's Golf
Watchung, N.J. – Temple Golf's hot start to the season continued Sunday as the Owls shot a two-under 282 to lead the 12-team field at the Cornell Invitational. Conor McGrath also stayed red-hot, shooting a three-under 68 at the 6,911-yard, par-71 Watchung Valley Golf Club and sits in third place overall.
Recapping Day One
> McGrath, who was 13-under at the GolfWeek Fall Challenge, had six birdies on the day. He had four of his birdies in a six-hole stretch (9-14) to go to four-under, before dropping a stroke with a bogey on the 336-yard, par-four 15th.
> True freshman Ethan Whitney had another sub-par round for the Owls, shooting a one-under 70 to tie for sixth overall. He was three under after a birdie on hole one and an eagle on the 503-yard, par-five third hole. He would par all but the ninth and 15th holes (bogeys) the remainder of the day.
> Joey Morganti had his second straight 71, with his even-par round tying him for 10th overall. He was one-under on the front nine following birdies on the fifth and eighth holes. He overcame a double bogey on the 11th by making birdies on the 15th and 17th.
> Dawson Anders shot a two-over 73 and is tied for 21st to account for the Temple scorers while Graham Chase was one shot back (74, t-29th) to round out the Owl starters.
> Buddy Hansen, who is playing as an independent, was even par and tied for 10th through 14 holes when play was suspended due to darkness.
The Field
> Temple leads second place Colgate (284) by two strokes with Columbia (285) one stroke behind in third.
> Penn's Mark Haghani leads the field with a six-under 65.
> The tournament concludes Monday. Round one resumes at 7:30 a.m. for four teams that were not able to finish Sunday. Temple will tee off at 8 a.m.

On Team
> "Overall, we are happy we are leading but we have a lot to improve on if we want to win. We can't win it on the first day, but you can certainly lose it. We are happy about that (being in first) but have to seal up a lot of stuff tomorrow if we are going to win it."
On Conor McGrath
> "Conor played great, but honestly he had a couple of bogeys – bogeyed a par 5 and also the shortest hole on the course. That is a four-shot swing, so he was comfortably looking at a 64, 65 easy today."
On Dawson Anders
>Dawson did not get anything to fall today. We get him going and we will be in good shape."
On Ethan Whitney
> "He is really solid but made a couple of soft bogeys out there too."
