Volleyball Falls 3-1 at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Temple volleyball team (4-9, 0-2 AAC) dropped a tough conference matchup 3-1 this afternoon at Memphis (8-6, 1-1 AAC). After swapping wins with the Tigers for the first two sets, the Owls dropped back-to-back sets 25-23.
Recapping the Day
>The first set began closely as the two teams traded points until Memphis broke the 8-8 tie with a 4-0 run.
> The back half of the first set was dominated by the Tigers as they won by a commanding 25-18 score.
> The second set started with a hot start from the Owls as they took a 5-1 lead.
> Jaaliyah Evans had an early kill to get the Owls going in the right direction, and Temple did a great job keeping the Tigers a good distance away from them with big scoreless streaks.
> One of those streaks was a 6-0 run that included three kills by Gem Grimshaw.
> A late push from Memphis was held off by the Owls and they took the second set 25-18 to even the match.
> The third set of the day saw Memphis take an early 10-5 lead, which they turned into a 21-15 lead.
> Temple did not go down without a fight as they went on a 6-0 run to tie the score at 21-21.
> Memphis controlled the end of the third set and won 25-23 to take a 2-1 match lead.
> The final set of the day began with a great start from the Owls as they took a 14-8 lead, capped by a service ace from Taylor Davenport.
> The Owls could not sustain their lead as they saw a big push from Memphis to tie the set at 21-21.
> The Tigers finished on a 4-2 run to pick up the set and match win.
Individual Highlights
> Grimshaw saw team-high 16 kills and recorded a double double (16 kills, 13 digs).
> Katerina Papazoglou also registered a double double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
> Patrycja Zielinska had a team-high 43 assists and was one dig shy of a double double.
> Falanika Danielson posted a team-high 26 digs.
