Volleyball Opens Home AAC Play

PHILADELPHIA - After dropping a pair of matches on the road to open conference play, the Temple volleyball team will look to bounce back as it hosts Tulane and Houston this weekend.

Owl About Temple
> The Owls open home conference play after a pair of AAC matches on the road last weekend.
> Temple is coming off an 0-2 weekend after the conference opener, falling 3-1 at both SMU and Memphis. 
> Gem Grimshaw leads the Owls' offense on the right side with 3.67 kills per set, she also adds 2.73 digs per frame to rank second on the team.
> Miray Bolukbasi (2.84 k/s) and Katerina Papazoglou (1.55 k/s) also provide offense from the outside.
> In the middle, Taylor Davenport averages 1.26 kills per set, with a team-leading 1.20 blocks per frame. 
> Patrycja Zielinska distributes the offense to the tune of 8.45 assists per set, while Falanika Danielson leads the team with 4.65 digs per set. 

Scouting Tulane
> Tulane enters the weekend 9-5 (2-0 AAC) on the season.
> The Green Wave has won the last three matches, topping Wichita State 3-1 and Tulsa in straight sets.
> The team is second in the AAC in hitting percentage (.235) and has three athletes in the top-10 in hitting percentage, with Anna Davis (.335), Kayla Dinkins (.323), and Yvette Burcescu (.315) all hitting above .300.
> Michelle Urquhart is 13th in the nation in service aces (26), averaging 0.55 per set.

Temple vs. Tulane
> Temple and SMU have met 11 times, with Temple holding a narrow 6-5 advantage.
> The Green Wave has won the last three matches, sweeping the 2018 series and taking the lone match in 2019.
> The teams did not meet in the 2020-21 spring season.
> The Owls are 3-2 against Tulane at home, winning the last matchup in McGonigle Hall in straight sets.

Scouting Houston
> Houston is 11-3 (1-1 AAC) entering the weekend, splitting opening weekend of conference play with a loss to Tulsa and a win over Wichita State.
> The Cougars have seen wins over three Power-5 opponents, including wins over Oregon State and Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Invitational at the beginning of the season.
> Houston leads the league in opponent hitting percentage (.181) and is third in hitting percentage (.221).
> Two Cougars have a hitting percentage above .300, with Rachel Tullos (.311) and Isabel Theut (.310) coming in at 10th and 11th in the AAC respectively.
> Defensively, Tullos is eighth in the nation in total blocks with 71.

Temple vs. Houston
> This is the 14th meeting between the teams, with Temple holding a dominant 10-3 advantage.
