PHILADELPHIA - Temple Track and Field announced today the hiring of Kevin Kelly as an Assistant Track and Field Coach. Kelly joins Head Coach Elvis Forde along with fellow assistant coaches Cavender Salvadori and James Snyder.
"I am very excited to have Coach Kelly join our staff," Forde said. "He will bring many years of experience to our program and will allow us to add other events that we have not contested in the past, such as pole vault and javelin. I look forward to working with him and sharing many exciting moments within the months and years ahead."
Kelly joins the Track and Field program from Penn State University where he served as an assistant coach for nine years.
"I am extremely excited to begin my journey with Temple Track and Field," Kelly said. "I am looking forward to contributing to the success of our student athletes on and off the track. I want to thank Coach Forde and the Temple administration for allowing me to work with our impressive student athletes."
At Penn State, Kelly coached the Nittany Lions' men's jump and multi-events, as well as men's and women's pole vault. Kelly helped coach 17 All-Big Ten selections and six first-team All-America finishes. Kelly mentored multiple student-athletes at Penn State, helping them achieve various school records and postseason success.
Before his time at Penn State, Kelly served as the Associate Head Track and Field Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Rutgers University for eleven years. In New Brunswick, Kelly recruited prospective student-athletes in all areas of track and field and designed and implemented training programs for all field events. Kelly helped coach student-athletes to eight school records and a 2005 Big East Championship Outdoor Title.
Prior to coaching at Rutgers, Kelly enjoyed stints at Lehigh University as well as the Big East Conference Championship Seeding Committee as a Committee Member. Before his career started, Kelly graduated from Kutztown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
