PHILADELPHIA - Coming off a month-long break following a 3-2 finish at the Sacred Heart Invitational, the No. 8 Temple fencing team will return to the strip for the Penn State Invitational on Jan. 16.

Temple looks to continue its solid start to team play, with several young Owls leading the way at the Sacred Heart Invitational in December. Freshman Cindy Long led the epeeists, 6-4, in her team competition debut and sophomore Diana Tiburcio led the sabre squad with a 7-1 record. In foil, Anastasia Yankovskiy went 7-2, including a 2-1 mark against No. 4 Harvard, and Gretl Merges went 7-0.

The Cherry and White saw impressive performances in the preseason, with saberist Zoe Turner earning two podium finishes in individual competition. Naomi Ross and Long both saw top-8 finishes in the fall, with Ross earning a fifth-place finish at the Penn State Open and Long finishing eighth at the Temple Open.

The Owls will face top competition in No. 7 Penn State, No. 2 Columbia, No. 12 Duke, Yale, and Haverford. Action will begin at 8:30 am. in State College, Pa. and will last all day.
