PHILADELPHIA – Paige Shinberg, who has been Temple Football's Head Equipment Manager since January, 2019, has been named the District 2 Equipment Manager of the Year by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA). Shinberg will now be a candidate for the Glenn Sharp National Equipment Manager of the Year.  The winner will be announced at the AEMA Convention in June.

"It is very humbling to be honored by your peers," said Shinberg. "There are so many equipment managers who are deserving of this recognition. It takes a village to care for so many student-athletes, so I'm uncomfortable being singled out. I share this with my staff of assistants and student managers."

"Paige goes above and beyond every day in her care for our student-athletes," said Senior Associate Athletics Director/Finance and Administration Tim Thiess. "It is tremendous to see her work here at Temple being recognized at the highest levels of her profession."

Shinberg is one of four women to handle the role of head equipment manager at the FBS level. She came to Temple after a three-year stint in the same role at Northern Illinois. At NIU, she began managing the equipment needs for baseball, softball, gymnastics, and wrestling. She remained in this position from January 2015 until May 2016 when she was promoted to managing equipment needs for the football team including: inventory reporting, issuing gear, fitting equipment, ordering and providing laundry services.

Shinberg worked with NIU football previously as an undergraduate student equipment manager for four-and-a-half years working as a student until she graduated and was hired full-time. Shinberg graduated from Northern Illinois in December 2014 with a bachelors degree in management with an emphasis in leadership and management.

The purpose of the AEMA is to promote, advance, and improve the equipment managers profession in all of its many phases. One goal is to work as a group to bring about equipment improvements for the greater safety of all participants in sports and recreation. Members of the AEMA enjoy the opportunity to meet fellow equipment managers at annual conventions, share ideas, and learn more efficient techniques to help improve their work place.

The AEMA membership is divided into nine districts. District 2 covers all sports at all levels in the following locations: Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
