Men’s Basketball Win Streak Comes to End at SMU, 69-61

DALLAS – Temple's four-game win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum as the Owls fought valiantly before falling 69-61 to the Mustangs. Temple falls to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in league play while SMU improves to 16-4 and 7-1 in league play. It was also SMU's 13th straight home win.

Damian Dunn led Temple with 16 points while Jeremiah Williams added 13. Jahlil White grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds.

Marcus Weathers led all scorers with 27 points for SMU.

Recapping the Game
First Half
> It was a tightly contested first half between two teams that entered play on four-game win-streaks.
> SMU held the lead through most of the period, taking its largest advantage, 25-18, at the eight-minute mark courtesy of a 6-0 run.
> The Owls then clamped down defensively, forcing three turnovers and shutting out the Mustangs (0-5 FGs) over the next four minutes to cut the margin to 25-22.
> The game remained tight with SMU holding a 31-28 lead at the break.
> Sage Tolbert III had a Temple career-high nine points in the first half while Marcus Weathers led all scorers with 12 points.
> Williams held AAC scoring leader Kendrick Davis (20.4 ppg) to just one field goal attempt (0-1) and four points – all at the line.
> Williams and Davis both were limited on the court, each with two first half fouls.

Second Half
> SMU opened the second half with seven straight points to take its largest lead, 38-28, of the contest.
> Dunn drained a three-pointer to end the run with 16:58 on the clock.
> Trailing 40-31, the Owls went on a 15-2 run with Dunn scoring seven to give Temple a 46-42 lead.
> The game then heated up with the lead changing hands five times before a 13-0 Mustang run put the home team in front 65-55 with 1:55 to play.
> The Owls could only get as close as six the remainder of the contest.

Statistically Speaking
> Tolbert ended the day shooting four-for-five for his Temple high nine points.
> White also added a career-high four assists.
> Williams held Davis to 11 points while forcing the SMU star to commit six turnovers.
> Temple committed just nine turnovers.
