The College Football Playoff Foundation and Go Teach Dr Pepper awarded over 100 student-athletes aspiring to pursue a career in teaching and education. DiMarco one of six student-athletes from the American Athletic Conference to receive the award.
The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation released the list of the 2021 Go Teach Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway recipients and grand prize winners on January 5, 2022. The CFP Foundation is dedicated to growing its Go Teach initiative to place qualified teachers in classrooms and keep them in classrooms across the nation. This foundation started in 2019 and it is dedicated to supporting student-athletes pursuing a career in education.
DiMarco will receive a $2,500 tuition award as the American Athletic Conference recipient. DiMarco is a 5th year senior majoring in Secondary Social Studies Education.
"Teachers play a pivotal role in a student's life," said DiMarco. "I am grateful for the CFP Foundation's support in education and teaching. Every history teacher I've had has inspired me tremendously. As high school and college went by, I have gained confidence in my ability to stand in front of a classroom and give directions. I have enjoyed my experience in student teaching, and I am excited to take what I have learned into my future experiences."
A native of Wilmington, DE. (Padua Academy), DiMarco is a five-year member of the Owls and has been a mainstay in Temple's varsity boats. She joined the team for the 2017-2018 season and has been a top contributor for Temple ever since.
"I am super excited to get a closer to normal season this year," said DiMarco. "We have the squad this year to do well. This year we have a lot of talented underclassmen combined with experienced upperclassmen that know the ropes. I am looking forward to be back in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for the American Athletic Conference Championships this spring!"
"It's always exciting when our student-athletes are recognized and celebrated for their hard work," said Temple women's rowing head coach Rebecca Grzybowski. "Gab is a consistent high performer. Whether it is academics, rowing, community engagement, or teaching, she is incredibly passionate and brings enthusiasm and energy to everything she does. Gab will be an incredibly impactful teacher, she is a very deserving recipient of this award, and we are all very proud of her."
DiMarco will graduate this spring and attend Oxford Brookes University in the fall where she will pursue her Master's in Education. "I am excited to pursue both my education and rowing this upcoming fall," said DiMarco. "I am grateful for my roommate, coaches, and parents for supporting me and getting me through the difficult moments this semester."
