PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (1-7-4, 0-4-0 AAC) returns home to host conference opponent, Memphis (5-4-4, 1-1-3 AAC) on Sunday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Temple Sports Complex.

The Owls
  • The Owls dropped to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon, 3-1 in their fourth conference matchup of the year. Prior to the matchup against the Bearcats, the Cherry and White closed out a four-match homestand, dropping to UCF, 2-0 on Oct. 6.
  • The Owls are led by Katie Coritz and Carly Steinberg in the goal category, each netting two apiece on the year for a team-high four points. Both Steinberg and Coritz converted against LIU, with Coritz recording a brace to help lead the Owls to the 5-0 win. Steinberg added her second of the year in the most recent matchup against Cincinnati, finishing in the 60th minute off a corner opportunity.
  • Phoebe Hollin has been a driving force in the Owls goal scoring efforts, dishing out three assists, all of which came on the corner to lead the team in the helper category and tie for third in the American.
  • Kyla Burns has been a standout in goal for the Cherry and White, grabbing 66 saves to lead the conference by a nine-save margin as of Oct. 10. With 66 saves, Burns has also recorded a .767 save percentage, the second highest in the American.
Scouting Memphis
  • Memphis enters the matchup with a 5-4-4 record (1-1-3 AAC), most recently earning their first conference win in a 4-0 defeat over East Carolina at home on Oct. 9.  The Tigers only conference loss this season came to South Florida, where they were edged by the Bulls, 2-1. Memphis has recorded three draws in conference, including UCF, (0-0) Cincinnati (2-2) and Houston (2-2).
  • The Tigers are led by sophomore Jocelyn Alonzo, a 2021 AAC All-Rookie team selection. Alonzo has been a versatile piece to the Tiger offense, netting three goals while adding five assists for a team-high 11 points. Alonzo's five assists puts her at first in the American.
  • In total, Memphis has had 11 student-athletes contribute at least one goal this season. Senior Mya Jones, a 2021 AAC Second Team selection, leads the way in goals, netting five, tying for second in the conference.
  • Memphis has seen three goalkeepers in action this year, but redshirt Claire Wyville has led the charge, starting in seven games, and recording 16 saves for a .727 save percentage.
  • Last year, Memphis posted a 14-5-2 record which included a 5-3-0 conference showing, clinching the AAC Championship after defeating first-seeded South Florida in penalty kicks. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament, defeating LSU 3-0 in the first round, before falling to Duke, 1-0 to end the season.

History
The matchup between the Owls and the Tigers serves as the tenth time the teams have met in program history with an all-time record of 1-7-1. The teams last meeting came in 2021 where the Temple dropped to Memphis 4-0 on the road.
