Wei and Uchijima Clinch ITA Super Regional Doubles Title

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Jamie Wei and Maiko Uchijima had a standout performance at ITA Super Regionals, clinching the doubles championship after downing a Columbia duo, 6-0, 6-2. In order to reach the Super Regional tournament, Wei and Uchijima played their way through the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament from Sept. 30-Oct. 2, being one of just four doubles pair remaining at the conclusion of the weekend of a starting 64. From there, Wei and Uchijima advanced through three rounds of play at the ITA Super Regional tournament, before clinching the championship. With this win, Wei and Uchijima have punched their ticket to the ITA National Tournament.

"It was an all-around tremendous effort this weekend from Jamie and Maiko," Head Coach Steve Mauro said. "They beat the top teams in our region and I could not be more proud of the way they fought through every match. Coach Girsang did a great job coaching them to the victory and this is a great step forward for our program."

Wei and Uchijima will travel to San Diego to compete in the ITA National Tournament, the first Owls to ever advance this far in program history. The tournament is set for Nov. 2-6 and will be hosted at the Barnes Tennis Center. The nations top 32 doubles pairs will take to the court to battle it out for the ITA National Championship.
