PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (1-10-4, 0-7-0 AAC) is set to travel to Houston (5-7-3, 1-4-2 AAC) on Oct. 27 to close out the 2022 season against the Cougars. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The Owls
  • In the Owls final home game of 2022, the Cherry and White dropped to ECU in a hard-fought battle. Despite the Pirates taking the early lead, Temple battled back, finding the equalizer from Emily Kavanaugh in the 48th minute. With only 15 minutes remaining, the Pirates earned a penalty kick that ultimately secured the win.
  • With the goal against ECU, Kavanaugh advanced to two goals on the year, while adding an assist to lead the team with five points. Trailing not far behind Kavanaugh is Katie Coritz and Carly Steinberg, each netting two goals apiece for four points.
  • Phoebe Hollin has been a driving force in the Owls goal scoring efforts, dishing out three assists, all of which came on the corner to lead the team in the helper category.
  • Kyla Burns was a standout for Temple in the two-game week last week, grabbing 19 saves total, with 11 coming against South Florida and eight against ECU. In the previous matchup against Memphis, Burns had a phenomenal performance for the Owls, grabbing nine saves, which proved to be enough to earn a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Burns has been a consistent piece to the defense for the Cherry and White, grabbing 94 saves this season, to lead the conference. With her 94 saves, she has also recorded a .783 save percentage, the third highest in the American.
Scouting Houston
  • Houston enters the matchup with a 5-7-3 record (1-4-2 AAC), currently on a three-game losing streak, each of which came to conference opponents in Tulsa, South Florida and UCF. The Cougars found their only conference win in a 2-1 victory over USF, while recording draws against Memphis and SMU.
  • The Cougars are led by sophomore Samantha Wiehe, who has been a versatile piece tot the Cougar offense, netting two goals and adding three assists, to lead the team in points with seven.  Nadia Kamassah and Janna Singleton have spearheaded goal scoring efforts, each netting three apiece for six points.
  • Houston has relied on Haley Woodward in goal, starting all 14 games this season to record 64 saves for a .736 save percentage.
  • Houston has turned to new guidance this year, as Head Coach Jaime Frias was named Head Coach in Feb. 2022. Frias, who spent numerous years at University of Virginia, including serving as the assistant for the last four, has helped lead the Cavaliers to four AAC Titles and three College Cups.
History
The matchup between the Owls and the Cougars serves as the tenth time the teams have met in program history with an all-time record of 7-2-0. The teams last meeting came in 2021 where Temple defeated Houston, 2-1 at home on Oct. 17 for their fifth win of the season.
