Men’s Soccer Returns Home to Face FIU

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's soccer team (2-5-2, 0-3-0 AAC) returns home after its longest road trip of the season Wednesday to face the FIU Panthers (6-3-0, 2-1-0 AAC). This match is the first of four games Temple will play this season against new members of the American Athletic Conference. Attendance is free to all fans.

THE OWL POST
> Mike Eijgendaal has five assists this season. He is tied for fourth in the AAC in total helpers. He is 15th nationally in assists.
> Yann Kouemi leads Temple in goals with three. He is tied for tenth in the conference in goals per game (.50).
> Four players on the roster have topped over 600 minutes. Eijgendaal leads all Temple players with 694, followed by Fridtjof Andberg and Draven Barnett, with 649 and 645, respectively. Luka Kozomara rounds out the 600 club with 628 minutes played.
> Last match featured the return of redshirt-junior captain goalkeeper Eoin Gawronski after a four-game absence due to a leg injury. He made five saves against SMU.

SCOUTING FIU
> FIU was very strong in 2021, earning a 12-4-2 record and defeating three top-15 squads including No. 1 Marshall. They climbed as high as No. 12 in the national rankings. The Panthers earned an at-large bid as the No. 13 seed in the NCAA tournament where they fell to national powerhouse Wake Forest.
> FIU is 6-3-0 on the year and 2-1 in the American. The Panthers have wins over No. 25 Saint John's, No. 13 North Carolina, No. 10 Tulsa, and No. 22 Memphis. They have received votes in four of the five United Soccer Coaches polls thus far in the season.
> The Panthers' Stephan Afrifa is one of the elite players in the American Athletic Conference. The forward was named to the AAC All-Preseason Team and has twice been named AAC Offensive Player of the Week. He ranks fifth in the American in both goals and goals per match.
> Kyle Russell leads FIU in his third season. He is 22-11-3 during his time in Miami. He was named 2021 Conference USA Coach of the Year in only his second season in 2021.

> This is the first time that Temple and FIU have met. This is also FIU's first year in the AAC.
