Women’s Soccer Falls to UCF, 2-0

10.6.22 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (1-6-4, 0-3-0 AAC) fell to conference opponent, UCF (3-2-4, 1-0-1 AAC) on Thursday night, 2-0 at the Temple Sports Complex. A late first half goal gave the Knights the advantage, followed by a 59th minute finish to end the match 2-0.

How It Happened
  • The Cherry and White opened play with intensity, earning their first corner by the 10th minute. Sumaya Togba kickstarted a run down the right wing, putting a shot on net, but UCF keeper Caroline DeLisle made the save, resulting in a corner for the Owls.
  • The UCF defense held strong, defending the corner to swing the momentum in their direction.
  • The Knights finally found their stride in the 42nd minute, securing a goal from Mallory Olsson off a Kristen Scott assist to take the advantage heading into halftime.
  • The Owls reentered play looking to answer back, finding an opportunity in the 55th minute on a corner. Carly Steinberg capitalized, but it was called back due to an offsides violation, keeping the Knights in the lead.
  • UCF found the opportunity to advance the lead further in the 59th minute, finishing on a header after a corner was sent into the box.
  • The Cherry and White did not waiver and continued to exert offensive pressure, making multiple runs down the right wing beginning in the 70th minute in addition to earning a shot from Moa Andersson. Despite the Owls efforts, the UCF defense held strong, keeping Temple off the board to end the match 2-0.

From the Coach
"Top to bottom, we had a very strong performance tonight," head coach Nick Bochette said. "We showed some really bright spots and created some really great chances. I think there were times we didn't connect on certain crosses, or we could have inserted the ball better, but we had set pieces, we had corners, and we had good looks. UCF is a very quality team, and our performance tonight shows that we are moving in the right direction. The next step of the process is to capitalize and convert when we have the opportunity."

Up Next
The Owls will hit the road, traveling to Cincinnati on Sunday, Oct. 9 for their first road test since Sept. 15. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
