10.7.22 | Women's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (1-6-4, 0-3-0 AAC) is set to travel to Cincinnati (4-1-5, 0-0-2 AAC) to face off against the Bearcats in their fourth conference match of the year. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from Gettler Stadium.

The Owls
  • The Owls closed out a four-match homestand on Thursday evening, dropping to UCF, 2-0. A late first half goal gave the Knights the advantage, followed by a 59th minute finish to end the match 2-0.
  • Prior to UCF, the Cherry and White played back-to-back nonconference matchups, facing off against Gonzaga on Sept. 25 and LIU on Oct. 1. Temple had a breakout showing against LIU, blanking the Sharks, 5-0 for their first win of the season. The Owls showcased various offensive forces, finding goals from Katie Coritz (2), Carly Steinberg (1), Sumaya Togba (1) and Jillian Allgood (1). Phoebe Hollin was a driving force in the goal scoring efforts, kickstarting the set-piece efforts on the corner to tally two assists.
  • Kyla Burns has been a standout in goal for the Cherry and White, grabbing a league-high 60 saves this season, which included four clean sheets. After an eight-save performance against Drexel on Sept. 8, Burns was awarded AAC Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts, her second conference accolade of the season after earning Weekly Honor Roll for her clean sheet against Penn on Aug. 26.
  • The Owls are led by Coritz, who has tallied four points on two goals, both of which came in the match against LIU. Her brace against the Sharks was enough to earn her a spot on the AAC Weekly Honor Roll, the first conference honor of her career. Emily Kavanaugh and Roisin McGovern follow close behind, each netting one goal and dishing out one assist for three points.

Scouting the Bearcats
  • Cincinnati enters the matchup with a 4-1-5 record (0-0-2 AAC), most recently recording a 1-1 draw at Tulsa. Paige Miller headlined the offensive efforts, netting the 45th minute go-ahead goal off a Lauren Bastian and Brandi Thomsen assist.
  • The Bearcats are led by Vanessa DiNardo, a 2021 AAC Second Team selection. DiNardo has netted four goals and added an assist for a team-high nine points to tie for second in goals in the American Athletic Conference.
  • Following close behind in freshman Megan Smith with a seven-point performance on three goals and one assist. Alongside DiNardo and Smith are eight other goal-scorers, three of which are freshman.
  • Junior Anna Rexford has been the primary keeper, clocking 810 minutes in goal, grabbing 22 saves for a .710 save percentage.
  • Last year, the Bearcats posted a 7-7-3 record which included a 2-4-2 conference showing to finish seventh in the AAC, falling just two points short of an AAC tournament bid.

History
The matchup between the Owls and the Bearcats serves as the tenth time the teams have met in program history with an all-time record of 4-4-1. The teams last meeting came in 2021 where the Owls defeated Cincinnati 3-2 in a come-from-behind win at the Temple Sports Complex on an 87th minute Carly Steinberg goal.
