Women’s Basketball to Open Home Slate with Georgetown

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team will open their home slate with BIG EAST opponent Georgetown this Saturday. For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the Owls will play all home games at Liacouras Center. Tickets are available for purchase here.
LAST TIME OUT: Temple 49 @ No. 24 Princeton 67
> The Owls fell in their season opener to No. 24 Princeton, 67-49. Temple was down early, but surged back, cutting the lead to 28-25 at halftime. Despite several surges by the Cherry & White, the Tigers took the second half by 15 points. Temple dominated the turnover battle with 11 steals to Princeton's 6.
THE OWLS
> Tiarra East took the strong play that earned her a spot on the AAC All-Rookie Team last season to the next level in the opener. East put up her first career double-double, securing 11 points and 11 boards.
> Guard Jasha Clinton impressed in the season opener, she scored a game-high 15 points. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native also led all players with three steals.
> Two-time All-CAA selection Aleah Nelson tied for the game-high with her 37 minutes. The point guard scored nine points and passed for four assists to lead the Owls.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
> Georgetown finished last season with a 10-19 record and a 4-15 mark in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas' season featured a pause due to Covid issues of over a month.
> In their opening game of the 2022-23 campaign against Salem (DII), the Hoyas took the win by a score of 77-46.
> Guard Kelsey Ransom is a player to watch for Georgetown. Last season, the junior started 26 games. She averaged 11.4 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 steals. Ransom led all scorers against Salem with 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
> James Howard is in his 6th season as head coach of the Hoyas. During his tenure in D.C., Georgetown has earned a 53-91 record.
SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and Georgetown met in an instant classic last season. The Owls were trailing by as many as 13 points but stormed back to secure a 49-47 win.
> The two sides have met eight times. Temple has a record of 3-4 against the Hoyas. The Owls won the last two games.
> The series has a history of blowouts. Four of the seven contests have had margins of 19 or more points.
