TEMPLE, Ariz. – The Temple women's tennis duo of Jamie Wei and Maiko Uchijima earned a fifth-place ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) doubles rankings, as announced by the association on Wednesday morning.

The ITA, which releases official rankings for intercollegiate tennis, ranks the top 125 singles players, along with the top 60 doubles pairs in the country at the conclusion of fall play.

Wei and Uchijima's fifth place ranking came after an incredible fall season, as the pair posted a 14-1 overall record, which included a 12-1 record at ITA sanctioned events. In their first season competing together, their success started locally, starting off fall play with a perfect 5-0 mark after competing at the Villanova Invite and Cissie Leary Invite.

With five wins under their belt, Wei and Uchijima kept their momentum going into the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament. Winning three straight matches, Wei and Uchijima advanced to the quarterfinals and punched their ticket to the prestigious Super Regional tournament with a perfect 8-0 slate.

At Super Regionals, the pair kept the ball rolling, winning another four matches to clinch the ITA Super Regional Doubles Title. In order to do so, the pair defeated duos from Yale, Princeton, Boston College and Columbia. With this, Wei and Uchijima earned a spot at the ITA Fall National Championship in San Diego, Ca., one of only 32 doubles pairs in the country to do so.

In their first appearance at the ITA Fall National Championship, Wei and Uchijima made their mark, knocking off the third ranked doubles pair from Wake Forest in straight sets. Following this performance, Wei and Uchijima earned another win over Texas Tech to advance to the quarterfinals. Despite putting up a good fight, their incredible winning streak came to an end, dropping to Michigan to end the fall season with only one loss.

"Jamie and Maiko have both worked extremely hard this fall," Head Coach Steve Mauro said. "Being ranked number five is a great way to recognize this and show that their efforts paid off.  We are beyond excited for this spring and we know even better things are to come."

The pair will look to resume competition in the spring, opening their 2023 season in January alongside their teammates.
