Women's Basketball Stumbles at Saint Joseph’s, 75-66

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 AAC) dropped to Big 5 foe Saint Joseph's (5-0, 0-0 A-10) 75-66 Wednesday night on Hawk Hill. This was Temple's second straight Big 5 matchup.

> Saint Joseph's Tayla Brugler led all scorers with 17 points and blocked five shots.
> Aleah Nelson led Temple with 16 points to go along with six assists.

First Quarter: Temple 16, Saint Joseph's 21
> Powered by Nelson and Tiarra East, the Owls jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage.
> The Hawks countered by scoring 16 of the next 20 points to lead 18-12 with 1:30 left in the first frame.
> SJU hit a three pointer as time expired to carry the lead, 21-16 into the first break.
Second Quarter: Temple 38, Saint Joseph's 32
> After a few early buckets by the Hawks, Temple dominated the second quarter.
> The Owls took their first lead (29-28) since early on with 3:56 remaining.
> Temple scored eight straight points off free throws before Brittany Garner snapped the streak with a layup.
> Nelson concluded a fantastic first half (13 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds) with a buzzer beating three pointer to give the Cherry and White a 38-32 advantage.
Third Quarter: Temple 51, Saint Joseph's 59
> SJU began the third quarter on a 12-2 run.
> Clinton scored six straight points for the Cherry and White as the teams traded buckets.
> Makayla Waleed saw her first action of the season for the Owls. She grabbed an offensive board and assisted a Tarriyonna Gary three to cut into the Hawk lead (57-51).
Fourth Quarter: Temple 66, Saint Joseph's 75
> The two sides kept an even pace to open the fourth.
> St. Joe's extended its lead to 14 points with 3:30 left on the clock.
> Caranda Perea hit a three on Temple's final possession to put the score at a final of 75-66.
