Women’s Basketball Set to Face Bucknell

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 AAC) prepares to head to Lewisburg, Pa. for the second of its longest road stretch of the season. The Owls will face off against the Bucknell Bison (2-4, 0-0 Patriot). The 4 p.m. matchup will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: Temple 66, @ Saint Joseph's 75
> The Owls dropped to Big 5 rival St. Joe's, 75-66 Wednesday.
> TU won the first half, 38-32, scoring 22 points in the second quarter. The Hawks countered with a 27-13 third quarter to take the lead. They did not relinquish it for the remainder of the game.
> Jasha Clinton had a strong performance, scoring 12 points while shooting 6-10 from the field. The guard also passed for four assists and grabbed four rebounds.
THE OWLS
> This season has featured an exceptionally hard schedule thus far. The Owls have faced the third hardest schedule in country based on the RPI. This year is the first time Temple has faced two ranked opponents in November since 2010.
> Aleah Nelson leads Temple in scoring this season with 15.0 points per game. Nelson has scored in the double figures in four of the Owls' five games. She ranks ninth in the American in scoring. The two-time All-CAA guard has also been an elite passer. Her 6.0 assists per game rank second in the AAC and 22nd nationally.
> Tarriyonna Gary broke out last week, earning herself a spot on the Big 5 Honor Roll. She is averaging 11.4 points per contest. Gary is one of the best shooters in the American so far in 2022-23. The shooting guard ranks second in the league in three-point percentage (.484), third in three pointers (15), and third in three pointers per game (3.0).
> Tiarra East places third on the team in points per game (11.2) while leading the charge on the glass with 6.6rpg. East has been Temple's best free throw shooter this season, leading the team (>2 attempts) in free throw percentage (.750).
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
> Bucknell earned a 24-10 record last year; it was the Bison's tenth straight winning season. Bucknell won the Patriot League regular season crown but fell to American in the championship game. The Bison advanced to the WNIT where they lost to Drexel, 61-58 in the second round.
> The team is off to a rocky start in 2022-23. The Bison are 2-4, with all four losses coming by over ten points. Bucknell secured one win over Cornell in overtime and won by three points over Iona.
> Sophomore guard Cecelia Collins is the player to watch. Collins earned second-team all-conference honors as a rookie and leads the team in both points (12.8) and assists (2.8) per game. Her best game of the season thus far came in the overtime victory over Cornell, where she played all 45 minutes, scoring 22 points, collected seven rebounds, and dished out five assists.
> Trevor Woodruff is in his 4th year at the head of the Bucknell program. Woodruff has been a winner his entire career. He was named Patriot League Coach of the Year in each of his first two seasons with the Bison and has complied a 59-21 record with the team. Prior to his time with Bucknell, he led D3 Scranton for four seasons including a trip to the Final Four in 2016.
