Women's Basketball Hammers La Salle, 70-56 in Big 5 Victory

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (4-5, 0-0 AAC) won its second straight game Monday night, taking down the La Salle explorers 70-56. Tiarra East led the charge for Temple. The wing scored a career-best 25 alongside nine rebounds. Her 25 points are the most of any Owl this season.
 
First Quarter: Temple 21, La Salle 10
> Temple rolled in the first five minutes, jumping out an early 10-5 lead for the second straight game.
> The Owls kept playing at a high-level, extending the lead to 21-10 as the period expired.
> TU contributed from all areas, five different players scored, with Jasha Clinton taking the lead with six points.

Second Quarter: Temple 33, La Salle 21
> The Owls continued controlling the pace in the second quarter. Temple built the lead to as many as 16 points before a late push by La Salle trimmed it down to 12.
> In a very stop-and-go quarter, The Owls bench contributed 8 of the 12 points. 
 
Third Quarter: Temple 50, La Salle 45
> La Salle opened the quarter with two made three-point shots, capping a 9-0 run from the end of the first half. 
> East began to catch fire in the third. The sophomore accounted for 8 of Temple's 17 points.
> La Salle outscored the Owls 23-17 in the third. Temple had the most fouls of any period of the game with five.
 
Fourth Quarter: Temple 70, La Salle 56
> La Salle opened the quarter scoring five straight behind a three-pointer and basket, tying the game at 50.
> The Owls' responded with their best stretch of play of the season. Temple scored the next 15 points to set the lead at 65-0. East scored 8 of the points while Tarriyonna Gary scored five.
> The Explorers found their footing again, but it was far too late to mount a serious comeback attempt.
 
Game Notes
> East had far and away the best game of her career. The Louisville native scored a career-high 25 points, controlled nine boards, tied her career-high with four assists, and set another career-high with five steals.
> Clinton picked her second career double-double with 12 points and a game-high ten rebounds.
> Piper had another solid performance, scoring six points and rebounding for nine. This is her second straight game with nine rebounds.
> Temple tied its season-high in rebounds (46).
> The Owls bench had a season-high 37 points.
