No. 22 Lacrosse Opens Season Against Army

PHILADELPHIA- The 22nd-ranked Temple lacrosse team will open the 2022 season Saturday as they host the Army Black Knights. The 1 p.m. game will be live-streamed on ESPN+. Attendance is free for all fans, gates to Howarth Field will open at noon.

SEASON OPENER
> Saturday's game will serve as the 2022 season opener for both teams.
>Last season was the Temple program's best in over a decade. The squad earned a 13-6 record, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
 
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> The Owls check in at 22nd in the preseason IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse Coaches/Media poll.
> Temple returns several key pieces from the 2021 season, including First-Team All-Conference midfielder, and 2022 Preseason Midfielder of the Year Belle Mastropietro.
> The Owls had three players voted to the American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference team, Mastropietro, defender Katie Shallow, and midfielder Mackenzie Roth.
> Temple tied for second place with Vanderbilt in the AAC preseason poll, as voted on by the league coaches.
> The squad is led by US Lacrosse and Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame Head Coach, Bonnie Rosen. She is in her 16th season guiding Temple lacrosse.
 
SCOUTING ARMY
> 2021 saw Army only complete in nine games with four cancelations. The Black Knights went 5-4, winning their last five regular-season matches and earning a 5-2 record in the Patriot League.
> West Point advanced to the Patriot League tournament where they fell to Lehigh 10-8.
> The Black Knights are expected to be led by senior attacker Caroline Raymond and junior defensive midfielder Ceara Sweeney. Both were selected to the Patriot League Preseason All-Conference team. Raymond was second on the team in both goals and points last season with 22 and 28, respectively. She also led the team in draw controls with 55.
> Michelle Tumolo is in her first season leading Army. She spent the last three years leading Wagner with a 29-13 career record. In 2019 she took the Seahawks to the NCAA tournament with a 16-4 record and NEC title. Last season she led Wagner back to the NEC championship.

SERIES HISTORY vs. ARMY
> Army fields a young program, playing their first season in 2015.
> This will be the first time the Temple faces the Black Knights.
