Men’s Basketball Takes Over Fourth Place in AAC With 75-70 Win Over Tulane

2.27.22 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Damian Dunn scored tied for game honors with 19 points to lead five Temple double figure scorers as the Owls won a key showdown in American Athletic Conference play   Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center over Tulane, 75-70.

Dunn, who was not available when the Green Wave defeated the Owls in overtime two weeks ago, was joined by Zach Hicks (15), Tai Strickland (15), Jahlil White (13) and Hysier Miller (10).  White, who also grabbed a career high 12 rebounds, posted his second double double of his career.

Temple passed Tulane (12-13, 9-7 AAC) and moved into fourth place in the conference standings with a 16-10 overall record, 9-6 AAC.

First Half
> It was an ugly first half for Temple as the Owls shot 11-of-29 from the field (33%) and turned the ball over an uncharacteristic 14 times.
> Fortunately, Tulane was unable to capitalize, making just 42 percent from the field and committing nine miscues.
> After falling behind 8-0 at the start, Zach Hicks got hot for the Owls, scoring 10 straight points on three treys to lift the Owls to a 12-8 lead.
> There would be six ties and three lead changes over the final eight minutes with the Green Wave holding a 31-29 edge at the half.

Second Half
> Hysier Miller scored the first five of an 8-0 Owl run to start the half, putting the Cherry and White in front 37-31.
> The Owls were not able to extend the lead, but were able to hold the Green Wave at bay the entire game, never trailing over the final 18 minutes.
> Tulane cut the deficit to one twice in the final eight minutes, but timely threes from Hicks, his fourth of the game, at the 6:37 mark and White with just over three minutes remaining kept Temple in top.
