Men’s Tennis Prepares for Two-Match Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis (4-3) prepares for back-to-back road matches, starting off the weekend with a trip to Annapolis, Md. on Saturday, Mar. 12 to take on the Navy Midshipmen (16-4) at 10 a.m. The Owls will have a quick turnaround, as they face William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., just over 24 hours later on Sunday, Mar. 13 at noon.   
 
The Owls 
  • Temple is coming off a dominant 5-2 win over FDU earlier in the week, which served as head Coach Steve Mauro's 200th win at the helm of the men's tennis program. 
  • The Owls swept the doubles point effortlessly in the match against FDU, winning from all three position while allowing no more than two points in any set.  The Cherry and White moved into singles play with intensity, securing points from the No. 2, 4, 5,6 position to leave the Knights at a three-point deficit. 
  • Marin Delmas, who was sidelined last match due to a minor injury, leads the team in singles play, securing a 4-2 record from the No. 1 position. Gregoire Barety and Thibault Frumholz follow close behind with a 4-3 mark from a range of different positions. 
Scouting the Midshipmen 
  • The Midshipmen have had a successful 2022 campaign thus far, playing in 20 matches since their start in late January, accruing a 16-4 record. 
  • Navy enters the match most recently defeating Drexel in a 4-2 showing on Mar. 5 after dropping to NJIT in earlier in the day, 4-3. 
  • Navy is led by Gavein Seagraves in singles, compiling a 16-6 record followed by Jack Dabek with a 15-2 record. 
Scouting the Tribe 
  • The Tribe enters the match with a 6-4 record, entering the weekend on a three-match win streak. 
  • William & Mary had a tough start to the season, dropping their first three matches in late January before bouncing back with six wins in the month of February and only one loss. 
  • The Tribe secured sweeps over Longwood, Elon and Richmond with notable performances from George Davis and Harrison Brown who led the doubles from the No. 1 spot and singles from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
