Gymnastics' Castrence and Roland Earn 2022 Season-Ending EAGL Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday at the conclusion of the 2022 EAGL Championships, the conference's yearly awards were announced and Temple's Ariana Castrence was named the 2022 EAGL Gymnastics Senior Gymnast of the Year in addition to Julianna Roland being named Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

"Ariana Castrence received Senior Gymnast of the Year in the EAGL conference this year, and we couldn't be more proud of her for that. She has helped elevate Temple gymnastics to a much higher standard in her four years here, and we are glad that the EAGL recognizes her contributions! She loves this team, and she has always been all in for Temple University and for her team."
In 2022, Castrence highlighted her season with back-to-back EAGL Gymnast of the Week awards, EAGL First Team Vault and Second Team Beam honors and First Team All-Tournament Team on beam.
Throughout the season, the Waldorf, Md. native helped the Owls tie or set four school records, including the vault (49.200), the beam (49.325), the floor (39.375), and overall team score (196.675).
On the vault, the senior has won three times, adding an NQS of 9.845, fourth in the EAGL. This season she's scored a 9.8 or better in seven meets, including a career-high 9.9 on March 3 versus No. 33 Maryland, SCSU, and Bridgeport. Additionally, Castrence put together a string of five meets where she tallied a 9.8 or better on the vault.
On the bars, Castrence is 19th in the league with an NQS of 9.815. She's added a victory at the GWU Tri-Meet on Feb. 27 when she turned in a 9.875. In total, Castrence has earned five 9.8's or better this season, including a career-high 9.9 on March 3. She put together a string of four meets where she tallied a 9.8 or better on the vault.
On the beam, Castrence has an NQS of 9.835, 14th in the conference. She scored a 9.8 or better in eight of the nine meets she competed in including a career-high 9.925 to close out her home career with the Owls.
Castrence has two all-around victories this season in five meets competed. The senior has tallied the third-best score in school history two times when she scored a 39.275.

In 2022, Roland earned plaudits for 2022 EAGL All-Scholastic Team, First Team All-EAGL Vault, Second Team Beam, First Team All-Tournament Team on vault and Second Team All-Tournament Team on beam and floor.
Roland also helped the Owls tie or set four school records in 2022, including the vault (49.200), the beam (49.325), the floor (39.375), and overall team score (196.675).
Individually, Roland had five event victories this season, including three times on the vault. She had the fourth-best NQS (9.845) and on Feb. 25, she won on the vault at No. 29 NC State where she broke the school record with a 9.925. On the season, the senior scored eight 9.8s or better on the vault, giving her an NQS of 9.845, ranking her fourth in the conference.
The Lumberton, N.J. native also won two times on the beam with a pair of 9.925s, including Feb. 25 at No. 29 NC State and March 3 against New Hampshire and West Chester. She became only the third person in school history to score a 9.925 or better on the apparatus and tallied six 9.8s or better on the beam this season, giving her a NQS of 14th with a 9.835.
