Match Notes
The Owls
- The Owls advanced to 7-4 on the season after posting a 5-1 win over Fordham on Saturday afternoon. The match was played in an atypical fashion, starting out with singles play due to the impending threat of inclement weather. The Owls secured five points in singles play, which proved to be enough to earn the win without entering doubles competition.
- Prior to the match against Fordham, the Owls faced a tough string of competitors, with dominant showings in each match. Temple took to the road on Mar. 11 to take on Navy, playing the Mids close, but ultimately falling, 4-3.
- Less than a week later, the Owls faced back-to-back action, earning the 4-3 win over previously ranked Delaware on Thursday, Mar. 17, followed by a 4-3 loss to No. 73 Penn on Mar. 18.
- On an individual level, Veronika Kulhava and Yining Tian lead the team in singles action, as Kulhava has posted an 8-2 mark in dual action, ranging from the No. 1 to No. 4 position. Tian has posted an 8-3 record, which includes wins from the No. 3, 4, and 5 positions. The two standouts have also competed as a pair, posting a 6-2 doubles record.
- The Bears advanced to 4-6-1 on the season after their most recent tie to local foe, Loyola on Thursday, Mar. 24. The contest was halted due to a wet court with the No. 5 singles match undecided. The score was 0-6, 6-4, 4-4 with Loyola leading 30-love in the current point.
- Prior the match against Loyola, the Bears were on a three match win streak, going unbeaten at the MEAC Round-Up after facing North Carolina Central, Norfolk State, and South Carolina State.
- Aside from an unbeaten team performance at MEAC Round-Up, freshman Hannah Smith was a standout for the Bears, earning MEAC Player of the Week honors that week. Smith posted a perfect 6-0 record, winning all three of her No. 2 singles matches in straight sets, while also winning all three of her double's contests with partner Anabel Aran.
Match Notes
- The Owls are 3-0 all-time over the Bears, with the last match coming in 2018 where Temple came away with the 7-0 sweep at home.
