Track and Field Prepares for Virginia Challenge

PHILADELPHIA - The track and field team sets their sights on Charlottesville, Va. this weekend as the team competes in the Virginia Challenge on April 22-23 one week before the Penn Relays.
About the Virginia Challenge
After an Chelby Elam leads the way for the Owls in the 100m dash preliminary round which kicks off the meet for the Cherry & White at 2:25pm on Friday. In the 400m dash, Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye and Marissa White join the competition.
Throughout the day on Friday, freshman Amira Green and Nicole Castor will compete in the high jump while Tannekee Strachan competes in the long jump and triple jump events. Meanwhile, Sophia Gulotti begins the heptathlon at noon.
As the afternoon turns to evening on Friday, Helene Gottlieb and Laura Nicholson compete in a loaded 1,500m run field.
Michelle Joyce features in the final event of Friday when she competes in the 10,000m run at 10:00pm.
After Temple competes in the 4x100m relay at 1:15pm, Kwanda Knight will line up for the 400m hurdles.Â
Midway through the day on Saturday, Elam, Chidumga Nkulume, and Christal Pommells join the battle in the 200m dash among a group of 62 total competitors. Shortly after at 3:00pm, Gottlieb and Nicholson try to better their times from last week in the 800m run.
At 4:10pm on Saturday, Temple's 4x400m relay team will attempt to put the finishing touches on the meet.
Last Time Out
Nicholson led the way for the Owls in the distance events, running to a personal-best 4:23.05 in the 1,500m run.
Elam stole the headlines for the Owls in the sprints as the 4x100m relay team of Elam, Jewel Ofotan, Pommells , and Nkulume sprinted to its fastest time of the outdoor season, posting a time of 47.05. Later on, Elam sprinted to a personal-best in the 100m dash with a time of 12.02 seconds, placing in the top-10.Â
Rounding out the day, Elam, White, Ilelaboye, and Knight ran to a time of 3:52.30 in the 4x400m relay to post Temple's fastest time of the season in the event.
