Golf Sits Eighth After First Round of 2022 AAC Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Temple Golf finished the first round of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championship in eighth place in the nine-team field on Friday afternoon. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the Southern Hills Plantation Club on their par-72, 7,274-yard course.
 
Recapping the Round
> Junior co-captain Conor McGrath had a team-high five birdies to finish the day at even-par 72 to tie for 15th overall.  McGrath closed strong with birdies on the 16th and 18th to help Temple move ahead of East Carolina.
> Freshman Ethan Whitney had two birdies in the first four holes, as he carded a one-over 73 to end the day tied for 21st overall.
> Senior co-captain Dawson Anders made his first eagle of the spring season on the 7th hole and is tied for 34th overall with a three-over 75.
> Freshman Joey Morganti shot a five-over 77 on the day to tie for 38th overall.
> Sophomore Graham Chase carded an uncharacteristic 10-over 82 to tie for 44th overall.
 
The Field
> Houston leads the field at 10-under. SMU is in second place at six-under, followed by USF (-2), Wichita State (-1), and UCF (-1).  The Owls are nine-over after the first day.
> SMU's Nathan Petronzio leads the field by one stroke after the first round with a four-under 68.
