2022 TUG Awards: MVP

4/30/2022

The 2022 MVP is Ariana Castrence!

Castrence was a major contributor to the Owls' team success in 2022 and reached new heights individually to end her Cherry and White career. The senior helped the team break or tie three team records, including tying the floor record with a 49.375, breaking the overall team record with a 196.675, and the vault record with a 49.200. While winning multiple individual awards this past season, Castrence also broke personal records, including on the vault, bars, and beam with 9.9s or better. With two wins in the all-around, three on the vault, and one on the beam and bars, the Waldorf, Md. native, was named 2022 First Team All-EAGL on the vault and Second Team on the beam. In addition, Castrence finished tied for fourth place on beam at the EAGL Championships during the Owls' postseason run, giving her EAGL All-Tournament First Team plaudit on that apparatus. Later in the evening, during the post-EAGL Tournament festivities, Castrence was honored with the 2022 Senior Gymnast Award.

“Ariana is going to be extremely hard to replace. She has rewritten the history book of Temple Gymnastics in her time here. For the team to vote her MVP is a great honor, and well deserved. We appreciate all you have done for Temple Ari!”
