5.19.22 | General
PHILADELPHIA – Another semester in the books and more records set by Temple University's student-athletes in the classroom. Temple student-athletes combined for a 3.30 semester grade point average which marks the highest increase (+0.14) from the fall to spring semesters in a non-COVID academic year.
It marks the 21st straight semester grade point average above a 3.00 with four of the last five semesters being at 3.30 or above. Seventy-four percent of Temple's student-athletes earned a semester GPA of 3.0 or above. This is the fourth-highest mark in school history with Temple student-athletes eclipsing the 70% mark in six of the last eight semesters.
"I am so very proud of our student-athletes for taking ownership of their academics to produce these amazing accomplishments in the classroom," said Temple University Vice President and Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "I would also like to commend Justin Miller and his excellent staff at the Nancy and Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for their hard work and dedication to our student-athletes success. It is with their effort, the commitment from our coaches and Temple faculty and staff that leads to these outstanding academic grades."
Sixteen varsity sports posted a combined semester GPA above a 3.00 with 11 earning a GPA at 3.40 or above. Women's gymnastics and men's tennis posted the top male and female varsity sport GPAs, earning 3.65 and 3.47 GPAs, respectively.
