Field Hockey Throttles Lehigh in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team opened its home slate in spectacular fashion, topping Lehigh 6-0 Sunday afternoon. Six different Owls scored against the Mountain Hawks, the most goals the team has scored in a game since defeating Towson 9-0 in 2015. This is the second-straight year that the Cherry and White has opened the season 2-0.Â
Recapping the Game
> Temple scored in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back, with Julianne Kopec scoring the game-winner in her first goal of the year.Â
> The Owls saw two goals in the second quarter, as Tali Popinko scored unassisted and Olivia Vaccari scored her second of the weekend with an assist from Nienke Oerlemans on the penalty corner attempt.
> The Cherry and White came out of halftime with a comfortable 3-0 lead, but Myrthe Schuilenburg widened the gap with a goal 30 seconds into the third frame.
> In the fourth quarter Temple once again scored twice, with McKenna Burkhardt scoring off a penalty corner and Tess Muller putting the gme away at with less than 15 seconds left on the clock.
